1878-1880s Autograph Album of Mary C. Randecker of Erie, Pennsylvania

1878-1880s autograph album of Mary C. Randecker, "Mamie" or "Mayme", of Erie, Pennsylvania; her name is stamped in gold on the cover.

The album measures approximately 7-3/4" x 5" and contains the sentiments of 56 of Mary's relatives, friends, schoolmates, teacher and pastor.  An alphabetical surname list and an alphabetical list of the signers, together with any personal information they offered, appear at the end of this post.

From online research, hopefully correct:  [corrections and additions welcome!]

Mary C. Randecker was born in September 1863 in Pennsylvania, the daughter of German immigrants Adam F. Randecker and Caroline (Springler) Randecker.

Mary's sister Hildah inscribed a page in her album on February 13, 1879.  Hildah would marry Ferdinand Schottin about 1881.  He may have been the Fred Schottin who inscribed a page in Mary's album, along with his siblings Edward H. Schottin; Charlotte Schottin, "Lottie"; and Charles Schottin.

Other relatives of Mary who signed pages were cousins:  Charles P. Zeiter, I believe of Erie, Pennsylvania; and a cousin group from Buffalo, New York that may have been siblings, none of whom left a surname: Josh; Marie; Frances; Tine; and Rebecca.

Mary C. Randecker married Frank Low Noyes at Erie, Pennsylvania, on February 21, 1884.   According to his passport application, Frank was born at Cambridgeport, Massachusetts, on September 16, 1861.   He inscribed a page in Mary's album.

Mary and Frank lived at Watertown, New York, where Frank was a master mechanic.  They had a son Byron Noyes and a daughter Frances Lombard Noyes, who died young.  Frank died  in 1939, and Mary in 1951.

If you have corrections and/or additions to the information above, or information on any of the signers listed below, please leave a comment or contact me directly.

Mary's pastor, Herman Henry Bruning, at the Luther Memorial Church, and his wife Frances (Gable) Bruning signed pages in the album at Erie, Pennsylvania, on May 6, 1879.

Mary's teacher, Lillian D. Jones, inscribed a page on February 28, 1879.

One page was written in German.  The signer may have been Rosa Lachenmains.  If you can translate the page and confirm or correct the name, please leave a comment or contact me directly.  Thanks!
