1871 Autograph Album of George Gilman Blanchard of New Ipswich, New Hampshire

1871 autograph album that I believe belonged to George Gilman Blanchard of New Ipswich, New Hampshire or to one of his siblings.

George was the first to sign in the album.  All autographed pages were dated 1871, but a memorial page to George had to have been inscribed after his death on August 14, 1872.  See his gravestone here.

The album is approximately 5-1/2" x 3-1/4" and contains the sentiments of 15 of George's relatives and friends.  An alphabetical list of the signers appears at the end of this post.

From online research, hopefully correct:  [corrections and additions welcome!]

George Gilman Blanchard was born 13 May 1849 at New Ipswich, New Hampshire, son of Gilman and Sarah Elizabeth (Wheeler) Blanchard.   As noted above, George died 14 August 1872 at New Ipswich, New Hampshire, at the age of 23 years, 3 months and 1 day.

From what I could gather, George had four siblings:
  1. Julia E. Blanchard, who was born 26 July 1845 and died 1 May 1847
  2. Emma L. Blanchard, born 12 January 1858
  3. Carrie May Hannah Blanchard, born 19 June 1862
  4. Guy Clifford Blanchard, born 21 February 1868

Sister Emma L. Blanchard of New Ipswich, New Hampshire, signed a page in the album.  Emma would marry three times: 1) Frederick A. Wheeler; 2) George H. Woodward; 3) Freeman S. Tucker.

C. W. Wheeler signed a page at New Ipswich, New Hampshire, in April 1871 as "your coz".   I believe the signer was Clara E. Wheeler, whose brother Edwin Franklin Wheeler and his wife Mary E. (Knowlton) Wheeler, also signed pages in the album.

If you have corrections to the information above, or information on any of the signers listed below, please leave a comment or contact me directly.
