1880s Autograph Album of Jennie F. Kaler of Rockland, Maine

1880s autograph album of Jennie F. Kaler of Rockland, Maine.  The album was presented to her by Mrs. Fannie J. Young as a Christmas present in 1882.

The album is approximately 5-1/2 x 3-1/2 and contains the sentiments of over 40 of Jennie's relatives, friends and schoolmates.  An alphabetical list of the signers appears at the end of this post.

Jennie herself sketched a bird on the inside back cover.

From online research, hopefully correct: [corrections and additions welcome!]

Jennie F. Kaler was born 27 March 1871 at Rockland, Maine, the daughter of Peter E. Kaler and Lucinda E. (Jackson) Kaler, who were born at Waldoboro, Maine, and Jefferson, Maine, respectively.

Jennie's parents signed facing pages in her album.  Peter E. Kaler didn't date his page but added that he signed at 77 Camden Street, Rockland, Maine.  Lucinda E. (Jackson) Kaler signed her page at Rockland, Maine, on January 5, 1883.

Jennie's younger brother, Bertwell Emerson Kaler, signed a page at Rockland, Maine, on December 26, 1886.

Jennie would go on to marry twice:

  1. 21 June 1890 at Rockland, Maine: Ellison Mullen, born 4 July 1868 at Rockland, Maine, son of James H. and Nancy (Dudley) Munson.  They would have a daughter Nellie, born about January 1891
  2. 27 March 1901 at Rockland, Maine: Frank Leslie Seavey, born 18 July 1875 at Cutler,  Maine, son of Heman Loring Seavey and Deborah Lavina (Cates) Seavey.

Jennie died in 1963.

A few pages from the album:

Judson J. Richardson signed a page at Rockland, Maine, on January 20, 1884.

Edward C. Campbell sketched an elaborate design in 1883.

J. T. Young sketched a bird and scroll design at Rockland, Maine, on April 28, 1883.

  1. This too would be a good addition to the old Broadbay Historical Society as some of the Kaler's moved to Rockland
