The damaged photograph above shows the freshet of April 30, 1923 along the Piscataquis River at Milo, Maine.
The freshet presumably resulted from the Spring thaw, perhaps intensified by rain. There's nothing written on the reverse of either photograph.
The damaged photograph below shows another scene of the same freshet, identified as the area of the Toll Bridge and Brown Farm at Milo, Maine.
The Piscataquis River runs from Blanchard, Maine, in Piscataquis County, to Howland, Maine, in Penobscot County, where it joins the Penobscot River. At Milo, two smaller streams, the Sebec and the Pleasant, join together just before joining the Piscataquis.
