1880s Autograph Album of William D. Young, Student at Pinkerton Academy at Derry, New Hampshire

[Note of 12 February 2013: See the comments section for information on the possible owner of this album.]

1880s autograph album that apparently belonged to a student at Pinkerton Academy at Derry, New Hampshire.

The person who sold me the album said that it belonged to William D. Young, and he did happen to be the first person to sign in the album, in 1880, earlier than the other dates in the album, except for Martha J. Boyd, who signed on the same day.

Further, one of the pages was inscribed "Dear Will".  Unfortunately, William didn't note his residence, which would have been a very helpful clue.

However, he may have been this William D. Young (1864-1922).

The album is approximately 7" x 4-1/4" and contains 22 signed pages, plus several pages with pre-printed illustrations scattered throughout, a few of them chosen by inscribers to leave sentiments.

If you've come across a William D. Young in your family research who might have attended Pinkerton Academy at Derry, New Hampshire, please leave a comment or contact me directly.

  2. Another transcription gremlin...

Today I was researching a man that I believed to have been born in the West Isles of New Brunswick, Canada about 1824. Found a lot of online trees that had him born in Rhode Island. Finally found a document that had him born in the "Provinces", which a transcriber mistook for Providence, and things snowballed from there...

    Thanks once again, Ed!
