Postcard of the Eel Trap at Clinton, Maine, sent by John (?) to Julia Rollins at Brownville, Maine

Circa 1915 postcard showing the Eel Trap at Sabasticook River [now Sebasticook River] at Clinton, Maine.

The card was mailed from Clinton, Maine, by a man whose last name I can't quite make out, possibly John Erickson, Cinterson or Cristenson, addressed to Miss Julia Rollins at Brownville, Maine.

In the 1900 Census of Waterville, Maine, not far from Clinton, I found a man listed as John Creterson or Cseterson, born about 1883 in Sweden, living as a boarder and working as a laborer.  It's noted that he came to the United States about 1904.

The reason I think it's possible his name might be Erickson is that Julia's brother married a Swedish immigrant named Eda Ericson or Erickson.  On her marriage record, Eda lists her parents as Erick Johnson and Anna Marie Rey [there's a strikeover on her last name, so Rey is likely in error]

Transcript:

I landed safe here at Clinton yesterday.  Everything is OK.  I don't know sure when I'll return.  The best wishes from John Erickson [or some other surname I can't quite make out]

Julia Rollins was born about 1881 in Milo or the surrounding area, I believe, the daughter of Willis, a Civil War veteran, and Georgia E. (Wilkins) Rollins, born at Corinth, Maine, and Milo, Maine, respectively.

I found Julia as late as the 1930 census, living with her brother Frank and family.

If you have a theory as to the identity of the sender of the postcard, please leave a comment or contact me directly.
