Photograph of Albertine Henrietta Foss of Dover, New Hampshire; Boston, Massachusetts studio

Cabinet photograph of a young woman who identified herself on the reverse as "Albertinella H. Foss, Dover, New Hampshire, 1893".  I wasn't able to find an Albertinella H. Foss, but I did find an Albertine Henrietta Foss.  Perhaps Albertinella was a nickname.

The photograph was inscribed to Carolyn and was found with another, both taken by the Hardy studio of Boston, Massachusetts.  The other photograph depicts Carolyn Susan Foye, a schoolmate of Albertine in the Dover, New Hampshire school system, and likely the Carolyn in the inscription.

See another blog post for the photograph and family history of Carolyn Susan Foye.

From online research, hopefully correct: [corrections welcome]

Albertine Henrietta Foss was born 3 March 1871 at Barrington, New Hampshire.  She was the daughter of James William Foss and Julia Ann (Littlefield) Foss, who were born at Strafford, New Hampshire, and Sanford, Maine, respectively.

Her paternal grandparents were John Babb Foss and Alice (Parshley) Foss.  Her maternal grandparents were Moses and Ruth (Littlefield) Littlefield.

Albertine was a member of the 1890 graduating class of Dover High School, Dover, New Hampshire.  Carolyn S. Foye was also in this class.

It's possible that the two young women attended a teachers college together in the Boston area and graduated in 1893, the date on Albertine's photograph.

About 1895, Albertine married Ernest W. Littlefield, son of Moses Littlefield II and Martha Jane (Ricker) Littlefield.  He was born 19 February 1871 at Sanford, Maine.

Albertine and Ernest were enumerated in the 1920 and 1930 Censuses of Dover, New Hampshire, where Ernest managed a farm.  I don't know if they had any children.
